Health Magazine recently reported their most updated findings on the top superfoods for women.  They consulted with a team of 5 experts to reach this conclusion.  Experts including David L. Katz, MD, MPH from Yale University School of Medicine, and Roshini Rajapaksa, MD Medical Expert from Health Magazine.

It should come as no surprise that women have different health requirements than men do.  While many of these superfoods are recommended for both men and women, this particular study honed in on the superfoods that are the best specifically for females.  The team chose superfoods that have the ability to strengthen bones, increase stamina and energy, and ward off disease.

Wild Blueberries
Wild blueberries are crucial to women because they have anti-aging properties; they also help with a variety of other health concerns, such as lowering blood pressure and preventing memory loss.  Wild blueberries are loaded with antioxidants, in particular anthocyanins.

Oats
Oats can lower cholesterol and are packed with fiber.  Steel cut oats are even better than quick oats.

Broccoli
Broccoli is believed to prevent against breast cancer, this is something that is obviously important for all women.  Broccoli also contains Vitamin C, Vitamin A, fiber, folate, calcium, iron and potassium.

Walnuts
Walnuts improve mental function and improve sleep.  They also fight diseases like heart disease and cancer and lower cholesterol.

Avocados
Avocados do contain fat, but it is a good fat.  The monounsaturated fatty acids found in avocadoes can actually help women lose weight around their stomachs.  Avocadoes also contain potassium, magnesium, folate and protein.  Avocados aren’t short on Vitamins either; they contain B6, E and K.

Red Beans
While all beans are recommended for women, red beans are particularly good to eat and made the superfoods list.  They have tons of antioxidants. They also contain folate, minerals, and fiber.  For women trying to lose weight, beans help you stay full and control your blood sugar.

Wild Alaskan Salmon
Wild Alaskan Salmon is key for the diet because of all the omega-3 fatty acids this fish contains.  Omega-3s are particularly important for women.  It includes DHA, which is important for pregnant women.  Omega-3 also has a variety of benefits including improving mood, and protecting against diseases like Alzheimer’s and cancer.  Wild Alaskan Salmon also contains Vitamin D, which is particularly important for women during the winter.

We will continue our list of the best Superfoods for women in part 2.  There are 8 more foods that are recommended as highly important.
