Cancer can be prevented - and you don’t have to spend a fortune in protecting yourself and the ones you love from the scourge of this sudden and swift killer.  Here are specific steps that you can take to protect yourself from different types of cancer:

Step 1: Limit your intake of fried foods.  When food is heated to more than 240 degrees Fahrenheit, it has been shown that a carcinogenic substance called acrylamide forms in food.

There is an acceptable amount of acrylamide in commercially prepared food, according to the World Health Organization.  Unfortunately, your regular bag of potato chips can contain up to five hundred percent more than what the WHO’s guidelines have stipulated. Acrylamide increases a woman’s risk for endometrial cancer.

Step 2: According to a study performed by researchers from Japan, regularly salting your food predisposes you to different types of cancer by as much as 15%.  The bacterial strain responsible for ulcers and cancer, H.pylorii also thrives in the acidic stomach environment with the help of a salty diet.  In Japan, where salty foods are most popular, gastric cancer is the foremost type of cancer diagnosed.  Use organic sea salt in place of table salt.

Step 3: Anything that has been pickled increases your risk for stomach cancer by a whopping 50%.  So if you are hankering for something like kimchi (pickled vegetable dish popular in Korea), opt for fresh salad or something that has not been pickled.  Consumption of a large amount of pickled foods can make your more susceptible to stomach cancer - so be careful with what you eat.

Step 4: According to a recent study in Italy, people who consumed high amounts of sugar on a daily basis is 78% more likely to succumb to pancreatic cancer.  One easy way of avoiding excessive sugar is by cutting out sodas and sugary snacks from your diet.

Doing so also supports weight loss efforts because a serving of soda a day can increase your weight by almost 15 pounds per year!  Excessive sugar in your diet can feed pre-existing cancer cells and may also hamper your cancer prevention routine.

Step 5: Grilled and roasted meats might be crowd favorites, but these meats also produce aromatic amines that cause cancer.  It has been found that people who eat the most amount of charred meats are also prone to rectal cancer.  Limit your intake of charred meats.

Step 6: Excessive drinking doesn’t just affect the liver - it also increases your risk for cancer.  Women are equally at risk as men.  According to recent research, women (especially those over the age of 40) who have two or more drinks per day are 30% more likely to suffer mortality from breast cancer than those who did not drink regularly.

Step 7: Too much meat in your diet can make prostate cancer treatment more difficult - and meats also increase one’s risk for colon cancer.  Instead of cooking meat again on your next meal, try cutting down the amount of meat and replace the bulk with fiber-rich vegetables.

Step 8: “Farm-fresh fish” is actually an ironic term, because farm fish are often loaded with twice as much toxins as wild fish.  Toxins like PCB can cause cancer and other health concerns if such toxins accumulate in the body in high amounts.  Opt for fresh, wild fish instead.

Step 9: Cured meats are tasty, but they also increase your chances of dying from pancreatic cancer by a whopping 67%.  Avoid cured meats because these meats are loaded with nitrites and preservatives that have no place in a healthy person’s body.
