Recent reports have begun linking the cholesterol lowering pill, Inegy to the possibility of a cancer diagnosis. This particular drug is actually a two for one, combining the satin drug called simvastatin with a newly formed medication called ezetimibe. The pill itself is meant to diminish LDL, which is known as the “bad” cholesterol. Unfortunately, what should be a beneficial treatment for this condition is being proven to do more harm than good to the body.

The Food and Drug Administration is in the process of reviewing a five-year long trial, which found that a staggering number of those who took Inegy eventually suffered, or even died from cancer diagnoses. However, despite this astonishing information, the FDA has not made any requirements for the drug to be discontinued or taken out of circulation. Their only action is to encourage physicians to monitor any patients currently using Inegy, which includes two million prescriptions in the last two years.

Apparently any efficient regulations of Inegy will have to wait. A spokesman from the Medicines and Healthcare Products-Regulatory Agency said, “Any regulatory action that may be necessary to minimize harm to patients will be taken once the new information has been carefully reviewed.”

Claims from a spokesman for Schering-Plough state, “The data has been independently analyzed by an Oxford University researcher who believes the cancer finding was probably due to chance.”

Even if this was a valid argument to keep this drug on the market, there is little reason for those suffering from high cholesterol to undergo treatment via prescription drugs. There are much simpler and natural means of lowering LDL. Red yeast rice and garlic (Kyolic is a fine choice for garlic) supplements are superior in effectiveness and do not create any risk of harmful side effects. There is certainly no fear of a cancer diagnosis in natural healing. Also, tried and true exercise is a perfectly legitimate way to obtain beneficial results far beyond the lowering of cholesterol.

Additionally, anyone taking a satin drug should definitely couple it with CoQ10. Jarrow formula is a preferred brand.
