The current artificial sweeteners on the market, such as Equal and NutraSweet are soon going to have some healthy competition for a no calorie sweetener. Stevia is an herbal supplement, which has been around for centuries, but only recently has it been getting attention not only from the FDA but from the Coca-Cola Company as well. Coca-Cola is one of the main creators behind this new form of tabletop no calorie sweeteners and they also plan to include Stevia within their Coke products as a healthier form of sweetener. Stevia has been used as a sweetener for centuries in South America and Japan and today. It is trying to finally break into North America.

Truvia is the name of this new no calorie sweetener created with the herb, Stevia. In the past the FDA has had concerns regarding safety with this herb so it is time to ensure these issues are behind us for good. It is true that there are many no calorie sweeteners on the market today and approved by the FDA. The difference between these and Truvia is that Truvia is all-natural. Not only is this new product created with Stevia completely natural, but it is also backed by a great deal of research and studies in order to prove its safety on the public awaiting its introduction.

Studies published in the online version of Food and Chemical Toxicology have found that when testing animals there are no signs of reproductive effects, no raising of blood pressure levels or blood sugar. However, Coca-Cola took these studies one step further and tested Truvia on healthy adults and those with Type 2 Diabetes. The results of these tests showed no effects and further testing has been done on rats to prove their results even further. After all these studies, Truvia is set to be released but no one can be sure when this release will take place.

The herb Stevia has many different health benefits, which cannot only be obtained not only through herbal supplementation but also through this no calorie sweetener soon to be released to the public.

  • Studies have shown Stevia can lower both systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels.
  • Stevia contains less carbohydrates and therefore makes it the perfect option for those looking to maintain their weight.
  • Stevia holds the ability to lower blood sugar levels.
  • Stevia inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria within the body.
  • Stevia is a digestive stimulant.
Has Coca-Cola finally produced a product that actually has health benefits? Time will tell. Since many people are now going to ask me if I recommend Truvia, here's my answer: I can't recommend Truvia just yet because I haven't evaluated this product nor have I done extensive research on it yet. I will publish my findings as my research continues on it. From what I can tell so far, it's a far more healthier option to artificial sweeteners. Meanwhile, those waiting to try Truvia should consider using Agave Nectar, which is a natural sweetener that's absorbed slowly by the body.

In closing, stevia is one of the many herbs that have been used in alternative and natural medicine for centuries. Only now are many people beginning to see the benefits of living a natural lifestyle and turning away from prescription medications which have a long list of side effects. Keep your eyes open for the release of this natural no calorie sweetener. Until this time, Stevia is available through herbal supplements for anyone to test out its benefits on their own health.
