Dilantin is a commonly used drug for people suffering from epilepsy.
This drug works to slow down the impulses that are being sent to the
brain in order to reduce the onset of seizures. It is not meant to prevent
and control all types of seizures and a physician may also prescribe
it for conditions other than seizures. Of course just as with any medication
today there are risks that need to be considered before you decide that
Dilantin is the solution for you and your epileptic symptoms. For instance,
you are advised to never stop taking Dilantin once you |
start because this could cause an increase of seizures.
Some of the possible side effects of this drug include:
- Confusion and hallucinations
- Changes in the shape of your face
|
These are side effects that have been connected to Dilantin with no other drugs
involved. This epilepsy drug does interact negatively with other drugs such
as antacids and this should be kept in mind as well. With more than 2 million
people in the USA today suffering from epilepsy, their doctor’s are bound to
prescribe this type of medication to them but there are natural options that
can be taken advantage of in its place.
Today more and more people are beginning to see the potential of natural supplements,
healthy diet and herbs in order to heal their problems without the risk of dangerous
side effects. Some of these natural alternatives include:
- L-Carnitine is an amino acid, which will deliver essential fatty
acids and create the protein your body needs to the cells.
- Magnesium (700 mg per day) is a great natural mineral to calm
the nervous system and therefore prevent muscle spasms.
- Coenzyme Q10 improves the amount of oxygen
heading to the brain.
- Vitamin B is essential when it comes to the proper function
of the nervous system.
- Zinc (50-80 mg daily) can help protect your brain cells during
a seizure.
