Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death among men today. It is a walnut sized gland located at the base of the bladder that encircles the urethra. This is the tube where the urine is voided. The prostate creates prostatic fluid, which is the bulk of the male ejaculate and nourishes the transport of the sperm. Men in their 30s and 40s are the most susceptible as this is a disease of aging. As you age your risk of prostate cancer only begins to increase at a faster rate. Approximately 80% of cases occur in men over the age of 65 years old and by the age of 80 years old 80% of all men have prostate cancer to some degree.
If prostate cancer is diagnosed early enough, 99.3% of the men diagnosed survive. Currently the statistics are not that promising with over 29,000 men dying each year due to prostate cancer. Lymphatic vessels leading from the prostate gland to the pelvic lymph provides a route for prostate cancer to spread to other areas of the body, which is how many men lose their life to prostate cancer. Prostate cancer doubles in size every six years and therefore understanding the symptoms is a must. Some of the symptoms include burning sensation during urination, frequent urination, decrease in size and flow of urination, inability to urinate, blood in the urine and lower back and pelvic pain. Unfortunately this disease does not provide you with these symptoms until the prostate cancer has reached an advanced stage. Also, many times these symptoms may not even be caused by the cancer but instead by an enlarged prostate that may be benign. Although the cause of prostate cancer is not known there are some risk factors that have been established like age, if you have a first relative who died or had prostate cancer, if you are African American, etc. These are the types of higher risk men who will no doubt experience prostate cancer at some point in their lives. There are dozens of natural ways to avoid prostate cancer in your future and lessen the pain of its symptoms for those who already suffer from prostate cancer.
