Much new research has been conducted on resveratrol, a powerful substance found in red wine. Resveratrol has strong antioxidants that can help the treatment and prevention of many types of diseases. For example, resveratrol has been found to lower the risk of heart disease and stroke. It has other benefits as well such as slowing Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and many types of cancer. It also helps to slow the aging process by protecting the cells from future damage.
Resveratrol is a polyphenol, a type of micronutrient found mainly in plants. Micronutrients are a new area of study. What is known is that resveratrol is an antioxidant with chemo preventative properties. Antioxidants can help the body by reducing the amount of free radicals. Free radicals are the by-product of the use of oxygen and also find their way into the body through outside sources such as pollution, cigarette smoke and chemical additives. When there is an overload of free radicals the immune system is compromised and this can encourage diseases to form or worsen. Free radicals can also contribute to hardening and thickening of the arteries. Resveratrol has been found to have excellent results when used in treating and preventing heart disease. Resveratrol can actually help to reverse some of the effects of heart disease. A study published in the American Journal of Physiology reported that results of the research suggested that resveratrol has anti-fibrotic properties in the myocardium. Earlier research studies have also found that resveratrol helps to reduce the risk of heart disease and in some cases may even reverse some previous effects of heart disease. Resveratrol is found primarily in red wine. Red wine is made using red grape skins, which is one of the best sources of resveratrol. However, you may need to drink several or more glasses of red wine a day in order to get any results and I DO NOT recommend this! Instead, I recommend taking a resveratrol supplement. If you have a history of heart disease in your family you should consider taking this beneficial supplement. I personally supplement with the Resveratrol Synergistic Formula by Nature's Way. It contains a blend of powerful antioxidants including Japanese Knotweed, which is a great source of Resveratrol. I have no financial ties to the company Nature's Way and I don't receive any reimbursement for mentioning their product. It is my opinion that they provide a high-quality Resveratrol supplement.
