Medically known as nevi, moles are clusters of pigmented cells that typically appear as small, dark brown spots on parts of the body including the torso, face, arms and legs. While most moles are brown in color, they can also, appear a range of colors and can develop virtually anywhere on the body.

Most people have between 10 and 40 moles, although the number you have may change throughout life. New moles can appear into mid-adulthood, and because moles last about 50 years, some moles may disappear as you age.

In most cases, moles are harmless, but rarely they may become cancerous. For that reason, it is very important to monitor moles and other pigmented patches at all times. This is especially important in early detection of skin cancer, especially malignant melanoma.

Typical moles are plain, brown spots but they can also appear in a wide variety of colors, and can vary in shape from oval to round, and be as small as a pinhead or large enough to cover an entire limb on a person’s body. Moles that are larger than 8 inches in diameter and present at birth are a special problem and may require removal as a precautionary step in preventing malignant melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer.

A mole’s surface can be smooth or wrinkled, flat or raised. Certain moles may initially be flat and brown and as time progresses, become slightly raised and lighter in color. Some may even disappear on their own.

Most people tend to develop moles by age 20 but they can continue to appear until midlife. Moles are more apt to change at certain points in a person’s life. An example of this includes moles becoming darker, larger and more numerous as a result of hormonal changes during adolescence and pregnancy. Use of birth control pills can also cause changes in the appearance of moles.

Moles are formed by melanocytes, which grow together in a cluster. Melanocytes are cells where melanin, which is the natural pigment that gives skin its color is produced.

Experts are still unsure of the exact reason why moles develop or what purpose they serve, if any. Generally, moles are harmless and don't require special care. However, some people have unusual-looking moles which are known as called dysplastic nevi. The likelihood of these moles becoming cancerous is much higher than ordinary moles. Atypical moles occur most often on the back in both men and women, and also on the abdomen, chest and legs in women.

The regimen outlined below includes a holistic approach to treating & preventing moles from becoming dangerous:

Avoid excessive sun exposure and always wear a hat and protective clothing when in the sun for long periods of time. Since most sunblocks contain toxic chemicals, try using a safe non toxic sunblock by Aubrey Organics.

Monitor moles for changes and report any sudden changes to a professional health care practitioner.

The following supplements be also be helpful:

Black Ointment (take as directed on label) - Draws toxins and promotes healthy skin function.

Colloidal Silver (take as directed on label) - Promotes healthy skin.

Histidine (take as directed on label) - Increases the skin’s immunity to sun damage.

Dandelion Root and Milkweed (take as directed on label) - Help clear moles.

Applecider vinegar (apply directly to mole and cover. Repeat this process as necessary) - Works to treat skin growths by causing a reaction and will shrink the mole or make it become lighter in color.

Pau d’Arco (apply directly to mole and cover. Repeat this process as necessary) - Dissolves moles when applied directly to the mole.

* Important note: The recommended doses are for those over age 18. Always check herb and vitamin use with your child’s health care practitioner prior to administering them.
