People complain of having so many things to do but having so little time to get them done. The demands of everyday life are taking a toll on us and it has even reached a point where our personal lives have started to suffer. It all started with having to miss a few nights out with friends. Then you moved on to cancelling dinner dates with your partner. And before you know it, you are barely home anymore, and during the rare nights when you are at home, all you wanted to do was sleep without giving your partner as much as a goodnight kiss. The clincher to all of these is that you simply lost interest in sex because you are too tired to even think about it.

Fret not, for you are not alone. While women may be thought of as the ones having low libido most of the time, studies have shown that both men and women are affected with low libido levels, and it has put a dent on their respective relationships. A survey that was made on 27,000 women and men revealed that about thirty to forty percent of the respondents reported having low interest in sex and low libido levels. In the United States alone, thirty-four percent of the women revealed having a lack of interest in sex, and seventeen percent of men reported the same.

What Causes Low Libido?

The causes of libido vary from one person to the other. For women, the most common causes of low libido include neurotransmitter imbalance, hormonal disturbances, emotional issues and stress. For men, medications like antidepressants; emotional issues like depression and anger; low levels of testosterone, and health conditions such as diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, heart diseases, chronic pain, anemia and other neurological disorders can seriously dampen one’s libido levels.

If you suspect yourself, or your partner, of having low libido, it is important to know what is the cause behind the problem because only then can you seek proper treatment or management for it.

What Can You Do?

Low libido is not a life-threatening emergency, so there is no need to treat it like one. However, because a healthy sex life is important, it should not be taken lightly either. Unfortunately for some, men most especially, they panic at the first sign of danger and turn to medications that they think could boost their sex drive and increase libido. But the little blue pill is not the only solution. In fact, it is not a safe solution at all! It comes with it the danger of side effects and adverse effects which can sometimes cause death – and they do not even come close to going to the exact root of the problem.

Here are safer, effective and natural ways for you to boost your libido, and that is without you having to endure adverse effects. These are all-natural tips which you can easily implement into your life:

  • Incorporate Spices in your Cooking

Most of the spices that are sitting on your spice rack and those which you incorporate into your cooking are natural aphrodisiacs, without you even knowing about it. If you want to make use of spices in order to bring back the spark in your sex life, think of this: the hotter it is, the better. Hot spice such as cayenne, cinnamon and ginger help improve blood circulation, allowing blood to reach the areas where it is most needed. Plus, it helps trigger the production of happy hormones known as endorphins. Endorphins help you feel good and will help set the mood for you and your partner.

Here are some more spices that could rev up your sex life:

    • Anise – this spice stimulates vigor and has also the ability to freshen one’s breath which is essential in intimate moments.
    • Cayenne – this spice stimulates circulation, provides a warm feeling to the body and triggers endorphin production.
    • Cinnamon – it triggers arousal and provides a feeling of warmth too.
    • Ginger – used to treat low libido for centuries now, ginger too warms the body.
    • Ginkgo – helps to improve blood circulation going to the genital organs.

Other spices that could enhance the libido are sage, rosemary, nutmeg and turmeric.

  • Eat Fruits and Vegetables

You may have heard of the various health benefits of fruits and vegetables to the human body. Its vitamin and mineral content has been a subject of numerous studies. However, did you know that eating bananas, avocados and celery are especially good if you are having low libido?

    • Bananas – the bromelain content of bananas is said to be the one responsible in enhancing libido. For men, it can also reverse impotence. Plus, bananas are excellent sources of riboflavin and potassium which gives the body energy.
    • Avocadoes – the vitamin B6 and potassium present in avocadoes help in increasing the libido of both men and women. And the folic acid in it also provides the body with energy.
    • Celery – this contain an odorless hormone known as androsterone. This hormone is typically released in man’s sweat and has been known to turn a woman on.
  • Do Yoga and Exercise

With the various everyday stressors, it is important that you find the time to relax and meditate. Aside from it being a good exercise regimen, yoga helps you with flexibility issues and some of the yoga poses direct the flow blood going into your pelvis. This stimulates arousal, and sets you in the mood. Plus, exercising also releases happy hormones – the endorphins. Furthermore, it improves strength and endurance.

  • Get Enough Sleep

A well-rested body is a healthy body. Sleep is the best time for your body to recuperate from all of the stresses and tiresome activities. You won’t be able to “perform” well for your partner if you are in dire need of rest and sleep. So while sleep may look like counter-intuitive, it is important for you because sound, restful sleep is very important for a healthy body, and a healthy libido.
