Sajuna, a Natural Health On The Web newsletter subscriber asks: How can I Correct Chronic Bad Breath?

Halitosis is the technical term for bad breath. Although poor dental hygiene was the only answer for this chronic problem in the past, today we have more options and answers. Bad breath can be a problem that many people find to be embarrassing and no matter how many times you brush your teeth or chew mint gum, the smell and taste cannot be eliminated. This type of chronic hygiene problem can greatly affect your life in more ways than one. If you have visited your dentist and they have informed you there are no problems with your teeth or gums, do not give up. There are natural solutions that you have not tried yet and often time’s this is the most successful way to go.

Some of the factors that may be involved to create your Halitosis include:
  • Gum disease
  • Tooth decay
  • Build up of heavy metals
  • Respiratory tract infection
  • Poor diet habits
  • Smoking
  • Constipation
  • Fever
  • Diabetes
  • Liver or kidney malfunction
  • Toxins built up in your colon
You may be surprised when reading through this list of common associated factors that many of them really have nothing to do with your teeth or gums. This is why many people have trouble finding the source of their problem because they assume it has to be connected with their dental hygiene but this is not always the case. Many of these factors can be conditions that greatly affect your health in a negative way and you should visit your physician immediately for a physical in order to eliminate the conditions suspected.

Dieter’s often find that they begin to experience bad breath on a regular basis due to the lack of food entering their body. This then forces their body to break down stored fats and protein for the fuel it needs to get through the day. As you continue to inhale and exhale you are literally inhaling metabolic waste from inside your body. Some of the natural solutions for this problem include:
  • Chlorophyll, which is contained in "green drinks" is one of the most effective natural ways to fight bad breath. A "green drink" formula that I recommend is manufactured by the company Garden of Life. It is called Perfect Food Super Green Formula. Another excellent green drink formula is manufactured by Wakunaga. It is called Kyo-Green.
  • Vitamin C (2,000-6,000 mg daily) can help eliminate the excess toxins within the body that can cause this form of chronic bad breath.
  • Avoid commercially manufactured mouthwashes because of the dye, flavoring, and alcohol content. Instead use a natural mouthwash that contains chlorophyll.
  • Garlic can be taken in dosages of 2 capsules, 4 times a day and is helpful when it comes to destroying bacteria in your mouth and colon to prevent bad breath. I recommend the brand Kyolic from Wakunaga of America
  • Zinc can neutralize any sulfur compounds in your body that create the bad breath you are experiencing.
There are dozen more natural remedies that can be added to this list but this is enough to get anyone started on the right track. Visit a naturopathic professional today for further information when it comes to the herbs and supplements that can best help you with your Halitosis.
