baldhead

While some people are blessed with healthy hair, others are faced with going bald at such a young age. Although the reason behind this remains to be a mystery, medical experts believe that a person's genetic predisposition and androgen levels play a significant role in the onset and development of hair loss and baldness. There are different types of hair loss problems. Telogen effluvian or temporary hair loss follows conditions like a serious illness, high fever and severe stress. Chemotherapy drugs, beta-adrenergic blockers for hypertension, retinoids for acne treatment and blood thinners can also cause temporary hair loss.

Hair loss caused by alopecia areata is a hair loss problem common in teenagers and children. The cause of the condition remains unknown but it is thought that the condition is an autoimmune disease that makes the immune system attack the hair follicles. Although the condition can also be treated through topical and internal medication, the new hair may be finer and may have a different color than the previous ones.

Hair growth follows a cycle and this process may lessen as the person grows older. For whatever reason, hair follicles can be successfully revived through medication and natural methods. But medications may pose unwanted side and adverse effects, so going natural is highly recommended. Eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, for example, can help bring back that healthy crowning glory.

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar Application

Apple cider vinegar helps in normalizing the pH level of the scalp. It also helps thicken hair by removing dead skin cells that can clog the pores and stops hair follicles from growing. Apple cider vinegar also helps in treating dandruff problems and itchy scalp. When buying apple cider, remember to choose unpasteurized, unfiltered and organic apple cider vinegar. You can use a brush when applying the vinegar or by simply putting a few drops in your palms and rubbing it onto your scalp.

  2. Massage your Scalp

Regularly massaging the scalp can stimulate the release of oil that is needed for healthy hair growth. This also improves the circulation of blood in the scalp and promotes the formation of hair follicles. You can do this by using your fingertips to massage your scalp in a circular motion for at least 5 minutes a day.

  3. Modify your Diet and include Omega-3, Omega-6, iron, Beta-carotene food sources

The foods people eat have a strong influence over their overall health including hair loss. Changing one's diet and including more of the nutrients that has been found to promote hair growth can help stop baldness. It is therefore important to take diet modification as a lifestyle change for the better. It may take time before your hair starts growing back so a little patience may be needed. The insufficiency of iron and copper in the body can lead to hair loss. Eating foods rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids can help in encouraging healthy hair growth by keeping the scalp and skin healthy. Foods rich in omega 3 and 6 fatty acids are herring, sardines, mackerel, salmon, olive oil and flax seeds. Excellent sources of beta-carotene include red peppers, lettuce, kale, spinach, dandelion greens, carrots, mustard greens, turnips, cabbage, pumpkin, collard, watercress, basil, parsley, sweet potato and endives, among many others.

  4. Use Essential Oils such as jojoba, rosemary, and lavender

Essential oils can help grow hair for people suffering from hair loss by stimulating the faster growth of hair follicles. Some of the essential oils that helps in promoting hair growth and basil, rosemary, sage, arnica, jojoba and lavender.

Rosemary essential oil is not only good for treating hair loss problems but it is also an effective topical treatment to relieve itchy scalp. It promotes blood circulation in the scalp area, stimulates hair growth and treats dandruff problems. Lavender is a strong anti-bacterial agent. It has different regenerative properties that make it a perfect choice for treating scalp and skin problems. Jojoba oil is one of the most popular treatments for hair loss. It can be mixed with other essential oils and applied to damaged and dry hair. Tea tree oil has excellent antiviral and antiseptic properties. It can be used to treat different skin conditions like bruises, cuts, warts and hair loss caused by clogged pores in the scalp.

Mixing a few drops of these essential oils and applying it on the hair from roots to tips can give the scalp and hair a thorough conditioning. You can massage your scalp with a brush and wrap it with a towel or shower cap for a few minutes. You can also make your own recipe as long as you have a few parts of each essential oil. Keep your mixture in a tightly capped jar or bottle for future use.

  5. Use Herbs

Saw palmetto is a popular herb that helps promote prostate health. The prostate is responsible for regulating certain hormones including DHT which binds to hair follicles and cause hair loss. High levels of DHT in the body can be the cause of an unhealthy prostate. Stinging nettle also helps in regulating DHT levels by blocking free testosterone from being converted into DHT. You can take stinging nettle tea a day for long term protection against hair loss and to prevent pattern balding.

For external application, henna and coconut oil are two of the most effective hair treatments to promote hair growth. Henna has been used for many centuries to promote healthy hair growth and to prevent baldness. Coconut oil, on the other hand, can be rubbed into the hair to condition the scalp and hair follicles. The oil has a strong moisturizing and antiseptic properties that help treat and prevent hair loss.

Uva ursi is a medicinal herb that has been traditionally used to treat a wide range of diseases including urinary tract infection. The herb has a strong antibacterial property which is found to be the reason behind its many health benefits. Recent studies show that uva ursi can also serve as a strong astringent and treatment for hair loss. It is available in dried herb, powdered, tea or pill form.
