For plenty of people all over the world, thinning hair is a cause for concern. Men and women alike will always be alarmed when they discover that their hair is thinning. Hair is their crown and with a crown losing its jewels, self-esteem is lost too. Many use their hair to make them feel good; with bad hair, there will always be creative solutions to cover the balding or thinning spot. Wearing a wig is one of the easiest solutions, but it is bothersome. Hair transplant is also possible, but it is quite expensive.

The thinning of hair is due to several factors. One of which is stress. The more a person is stressed in life, the more the tendency for hair thinning due to utilization of nutrients stored in the hair. Poor diet can also cause hair thinning and balding. Hair also needs nutrients. If the body lacks nutrients, the few amounts of that particular nutrient will be transferred to other major organs; hair will usually give up the nutrient. The tendency therefore is for the hair to die. Another reason for hair thinning is medications. Chemotherapeutic drugs will not only kill the target cells, it will also kill the healthy cells. The cells of the hair are the common target. Alopecia is an expected side effect of many drugs. But all these may be remedied. There are natural treatments available at home that will actually revitalize your thinning hair. By using them properly, thinning hair is a problem no more.

  1. Olive Oil

The use of olive oil for hair is varied. Aside from being added to dishes as a source of essential fatty acids, extra virgin olive oil is being used by some to treat their hair. As food, olive oil is highly rich in antioxidants. The polyphenols from olive oil is so extensive which makes it high in health benefits. When you take olive oil, the polyphenols help in eradicating the free radicals resulting from the stress your body experience as well as that of the chemicals coming from the medications. When free radicals coming from oxidative stress are erased from the body, cells can continue to grow. Hair growth therefore is possible. In fact there are products from olive oil in the market that promises regrowth and thickening of hair. Some individuals have high amounts of DHT, or dihydrotestosterone, in their blood. DHT have been implicated as one of the reasons of male pattern baldness. DHT may be found in the scalp. By rubbing your scalp thoroughly with olive oil, DHT can be eliminated, and eventually will revive your beautiful and vibrant hair.

  2. Onion

Onion juice is said to be an excellent treatment for hair regrowth. Onion may have an overpowering smell, but this vegetable is rich in polyphenols and flavonoids, and it is excellent with its health benefits. The antioxidant properties of onions have been studied and sure enough, onion is effective for the cardiovascular system and for supporting the bones as well as the connective tissues. Just like its cousin, the allium-rich garlic, onion is also a potent anti-inflammatory agent. With antioxidant and anti-inflammatory as part of the recipe, onion is therefore may have the capacity to protect the body from cancers. Consequently, however onion is prepared it is superiorly beneficial to the body, especially for the hair. In a study conducted at the University of Tasmania, their preliminary findings point out to onion juice giving positive results to half of their cases of alopecia areata. Alopecia areata is baldness in men due to defective immune system. If it is able to give good results to these cases, onion juice may prove to be an effective remedy for thinning hair.

  3. Red Bell Pepper

If you are a balding man who love pizza yet throw away the pieces of sliced red and green bell pepper because of its tangy taste, you might want to reconsider it. Red bell pepper has been proven by some to be beneficial for hair regrowth. Bell peppers are rich in vitamins and minerals. Just a cup of sliced bell pepper can already provide almost 200 percent of the required daily value for vitamin C. Its vitamin A content is also abundant, and so is vitamin B6. But what are amazing about red bell pepper are its antioxidant benefits. The vitamin C, flavonoids and carotenoids of bell pepper works as scavengers and protectors of cells. First, it forages on the free radicals that cause the hair to lose. Then it protects the cell membranes of the hair follicles preventing the hair from falling. For some people however, they are using heated and mashed red bell pepper and rubbing them direct onto the hair for hair regrowth. Although there are no scientific evidences to back up the claim, others insist it is effective. So, if eating red bell pepper is not your thing, you might want to try rubbing them onto your scalp.

  4. Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera has been for centuries been considered a medicinal plant. There seems to be great respect for this plant, especially since it is effective in healing wounds by covering the wound tightly with its gel and injecting the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory enzymes on the wound. To use aloe vera for hair regrowth, simply add the commercially prepared aloe vera gel into your shampoo; use it regularly. In time you will see changes in your hair. Others are also applying aloe vera gel directly onto the hair and scalp. But the best method is to drink aloe vera juice regularly. Aloe vera juice contains the necessary nutrients to protect the health of the hair follicle. When hair follicle is healthy, hair loss is prevented.

  5. Green Tea

It is the antioxidants found in green tea that helps in the regrowth of hair. These antioxidants can actually block the enzymes that are responsible for the falling out of hair in men. But this does not mean that green tea is only effective in men. Because of green tea’s potent anti-inflammatory factor, women with thinning hair can also benefit from drinking this beverage. It also has stress reducing effect in people, so when stress is reduced, hair loss is also reduced. Aside from drinking, green tea may also be applied on the scalp by extracting the primary catechin called EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-gallate), mixing it with ethanol ad applying to the scalp. But this method is still at the laboratory for further research. So the best way for green tea as hair thinning remedy is to drink 3 cups of it daily.
