We want to be fit and healthy and for some people, being healthy means having to lose extra pounds by burning off fat. If only we could eat whatever we want, whenever we feel like it, without worrying about developing diseases, or without gaining weight, then life would be really, really good. Unfortunately, that is not the case. If we want to live a long, healthy life, we need to make an effort. We are therefore required to eat the right kinds of food that does not only satisfies us but also gives us the right nourishment without feeling all guilty about all the calories.

For those who have been waging a war against fat, there is hope beyond those dangerous fat-burning pills, claiming to be the only effective solution, that are flooding the market today. There are foods that are readily available in your backyard; not only are you assured that these foods have no harmful side effects but also you are assured that it is indeed healthy and all natural.

Yes, there have been stories about certain foods and pills that would help you burn fat but then you realize the effects wouldn’t last that long and before you know it, you have been gaining more instead of burning more fat. So here are 6 foods and drinks that will surely help you burn fat without feeling guilty and indulge them in however you like.

  • Beets

Just ‘Beet’ it! Yes, this is a natural fat burner, who would have thought this tiny wonder is a fat burner? There are potent diuretics found in beets which help eliminate fats, flushing it out of our bodies. Furthermore, chlorine is present too, supplementing fat elimination. Not only do beets burn fats, it is also known as a negative-calorie type of food which makes it all the more good to eat and serve.

  • Celery

Have you ever heard of ‘negative calories’? They are not the same with ‘empty calories’ you find in junk foods or your regular beer but it simply means that they contain lower calories than other fruits and vegetables. Just like Beets, it needs more calories to burn in order to digest this food into your system.

To add, celery, especially when taken raw, gives the body some of the calcium that it needs. Calcium exerts an effect on the endocrine system, allowing it produce important hormones that help burn fat.

  • Grapefruit

Most fruits that we know are high in sugars that pack in more calories and make us gain more weight instead of losing them. Grapefruits are known to be low in sugar and, believe it or not, they are another source of fat-burners for you.

The results of a pilot study which lasted for 12 weeks showed that overweight people who consumed one slice, or two slices, of grapefruit three times a day during each meal lost an average of 3.6 pounds. This is compared to the 0.5 pound weight loss of the control group. Grapefruit helped regulate insulin and glucose levels which helps promote efficient fat metabolism while reducing hunger. The study was conducted by Scripps Clinic researchers.

Other benefits of grapefruit are: 1). it aids with your digestion, and 2). helps lower your cholesterol.

  • Green Tea

Tea has long been a popular drink especially when you want to lose some extra pounds. But what tea should you drink exactly in order to achieve that weight you always wanted? Green tea is well known for its ability to burn more fats in the body. It is rich in Epigallocatechin gallate which is responsible for increasing the rate of metabolism in the body and burning of fats. Consequently, it decreases the absorption of calories in your diet. Also, Green tea is naturally rich in antioxidants which fight off free radicals in your body. Enjoy a cup of green tea every day.

  • Spicy foods

You may be thinking of mouthwatering barbecues drenched in hot sauces and if that is so, you’re wrong. That is simply not the spicy foods we’re talking about since those types of barbecue sauces are packed with so much calories you would never want to know. What we are actually referring to are “spices” that give off heat – and the best example would be cayenne pepper. Spices give your metabolism a kick to speed it up at the same time increase your adrenaline levels which would also increase your blood supply. The thing about them is that you tend to drink more water which would result in making you feel fuller and make you want to eat less. Adding this to your basic food would also give it a nice flavor and taste but maintains the low calorie status, which makes it better to indulge.

These are just some of the many foods that will help you burn fats. But a piece of advice though, diet is always paired with exercise and it does not mean that you don’t have to do it anymore because of the food you take. Also, the quantity is not as significant as the calories it has – be on the look out for the calories and not so much of the quantity. Also, reading the nutrition label really helps you in finding out what is best and what is not good for you. Discipline and personal motivation to pursue your goal is really very important if you want to stay fit and stay on track in maintaining the weight and body that you have always wanted. Without this, these foods will not be as helpful as they really are.

The best way to lose weight therefore, is to strike a healthy balance in everything – food proportion, eating and exercise. This will help you lead healthier lives.
