Eating has been, and will always be, one of man’s most favorite hobbies. Sometimes, you just get the urge to eat regardless of the mood you are in, the time of the day, and the place you are at. Well, who could resist food temptations, anyway? It is hard to totally avoid the foods listed below.

I, for one, like some of these foods and I give in – occasionally, of course. While we bask in the luxurious taste of foods that we are supposed to avoid, keep in mind that our consumption of which should be extremely limited.  Once again, your will and self-discipline will be put to test.

You cannot deny the fact that you love fast foods, sweets, and a good number more to mention. While most of you enjoy every bite of your food, take a look at the list below regarding the top 10 foods which are considered unhealthy and are advised to be avoided. By limiting or eliminating these foods from your diet, you’ll become healthier.  Although this is not a complete list of unhealthy foods to avoid, this should be a good start.

  1. French Fries. The main ingredient of this food, which is potato, is normally healthy.  However, it starts to lose its nutrients when it is deeply fried. This food also contains high amounts of starch which can cause diabetes. In addition, french fries contain large doses of saturated fats that shoot up the cholesterol level in the blood. This makes you prone to coronary illnesses, stroke, and other heart diseases.

  2. Processed Meats. When meat is being processed, it comes out containing high proportions of salt which increases the risk of high blood pressure. Due to several processes the meat has gone through, it slowly loses its nutrients. Other contents of these processed meats might even cause cancer. It is also said that processed meats such as bacon, cold cuts, hotdogs, and sausages contribute about seventy five percent of the total salt in your diet – and you wouldn’t want this, would you?

  3. Doughnuts. True, doughnuts are too hard to resist – it is much too sweet.  However, this sweetness can seriously affect the teeth, leading to dental carries. Moreover, their sugar content is too high which can lead to increase diabetes risk, obesity and high blood pressure. Doughnuts may also be a source of hyperactivity since it provides you energy brought about by its sugar content.

  4. Soda. Do you find yourself reaching for that can of soda when you feel thirsty?  Hold it.  Soda contains large amounts of refined sugar which is the primary cause of obesity. You are taking in empty calories, resulting to weight gain. Moreover, the high sugar content of soda has also bad effects on the teeth. Soda causes you to have cavities especially if you can’t brush your teeth after drinking it. To add up, it contains caffeine which is responsible for your hyperactivity and inability to sleep.

Some soda companies also substitute sugar with aspartame, a chemical that has been linked to the development of epilepsy, emotional disorders, diabetes, birth defects and brain tumors. So choose water – it does wonders to your body.

  5. Diet Soda. Just when you think you’re safe with this drink, think again. Diet soda contains artificial sweeteners that are capable of making the body and the immune system become weak. It can also be a cause of obesity despite its claim to have zero calories. The zero-calorie content stimulates the discharge of insulin. Insulin causes the cells to absorb glucose. In addition, diet soda slows down your metabolism.

Moreover, diet soda also contains caffeine, making it hard for you to sleep at night no matter how tired you are. Sometimes, your inability to sleep brought about by the caffeine found in soda gives you stress and anxiety. Through this, you will experience a lot more complications in the future. Your sleeping routine will be messed up and you will experience difficulty in taking a rest and being at ease. And because sleep is essential to the body, your health will be greatly compromised because of the lack of sleep.

  6. Ice Cream. Not only does it include hefty amounts of sugar content, but it also consists of fats.  Its main ingredients are cheese, milk, and eggs – dairy products that are best sources of calcium. But too much calcium in the body can cause kidney stones. People excrete 85% of their intake of calcium in the urine, causing it to cluster together and they become crystals afterwards which will give way to the development of stones. It might also make a chain effect leading to uric acid. Eggs also contain cholesterol. Cholesterol, if taken in too much, can increase the risk of getting heart disease. It might also narrow the arteries and raise the risk of having stroke.

  7. White Bread. It is called a “dead bread” since it is primarily composed of synthetic vitamins and not real grains.  The flour used to make this bread is said to be bleached; thus, making you eat the residues of the chemical used in bleaching. A bleaching agent, when mixed with the proteins from flour, may produce a poison called Alloxon. It will significantly shorten the shelf life of the flour, causing the bread to create molds faster.

  8. Fast Foods. Despite being able to save money and time through buying fast foods, remember that these are processed and by the time you are going to eat them, the nutritional values are no longer present. Fast foods are full of additives and chemicals that are not good for your health such as salt, calories, and fats. All of which are added in high amounts. The excess fats that you are taking in are not fully used up; hence, its deposits create complications such as cardiovascular diseases and other more illnesses related to the heart. These foods may also be a cause of obesity and can lead to having high blood pressure.

  9. Most Condiments. Some of the commonly used condiments are soy sauce, mayonnaise, and ketchup. These condiments contain quite high amounts of salt. Too much sodium in the body causes retention of fluid, failure of the kidneys, and heart failure. It is recommended that you settle for the ones that are low in sodium.

  10. Diet Meals. I call these fake foods. Diet meals are unhealthy because instead of keeping your body fit, you become underweight. There is a tendency for you to become too conscious of your body, to the extent that you are limiting your food intake. Diet meals should consist of foods that are high in protein and low in fat.

As sad as it may sound, you have to lessen your intake of the foods listed above in order for you to have a healthier lifestyle. A minimal amount of intake of the foods mentioned is not bad. It is always about controlling what you are eating and making sure you get enough nutrients for your body.
