We're constantly being told by the media to decrease our fat consumption and to increase our intake of complex carbohydrates. If you're diabetic here's what happens. Your weight balloons because you raise your insulin demand. Complex carbohydrates are broken down into glucose and then insulin stores the excess sugar as body fat and triglycerides. The result is that over 100 million Americans (about 64%) are heavier than ever before. This is deadly advice for diabetics.

Avoid the Wrong Kinds of FATS!

Along with protein, fat is a macro-nutrient that you need in large quantities. But, there are several kinds of wrong fat. You don't need any of the polyunsaturated vegetable oils such as corn, canola and safflower that have been processed using high heat or toxic chemicals solvents. Also, you don't need margarine, which is a processed vegetable oil that has been hardened to appear solid at room temperature. Chemists refer to the process as "plasticizing oils" because the resultant molecules resemble plastic. Count on these fats and oils to contribute to diabetic complications such as blocked circulation of the extremities (leading to gangrene), eye damage, kidney injury, heart disease and stroke all resulting from impaired circulation which are symptoms of fatty degeneration.

Essential Fats - Restore Circulation & Potentiates Insulin!

There are two essential fatty acids that humans must get from foods. One essential fat is linoleic acid (LA) which is an omega-6 fatty acid and the other is linolenic acid (LNA) which is an omega-3 fatty acid. LA has been proven to help heal artery, vein and capillary damage that plague diabetics. It also aids the body in healing heart ischemia (decreased blood flow from the coronary arteries). In addition, the effectiveness of insulin depends on an adequate level of these two essential fatty acids.

GLA - Regulate Insulin & Protect Against Complications!

Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is manufactured from linolenic acid (LNA) in the bodies of non-diabetics. However, in diabetics the conversion pathway may be blocked. GLA has been proven to help regulate insulin production and helps protect against complications such as diabetic heart, eye and kidney damage.

In addition, GLA may reverse damage to peripheral nerves in patients with diabetic neuropathy. GLA and LNA also help to cleanse all the arteries that feed your body with nutrient rich blood.

Diabetic Power Drink

Purchase 2-4 pounds of organic flax seeds from your local health food store. The seeds must be whole. Make the following delicious smoothie in a blender. Please drink within fifteen minutes as the nutrients in flax meal begin to decompose immediately. Also follow this drink with at least two glasses of water. Flax seeds absorb 5 times their weight in liquid. Combine:

2 bananas or other fruit
2 ounces of flax seed ground in a coffee grinder
2 tablespoons of flax seed oil
Enough raw organic milk, raw milk yogurt or water to liquefy the contents

Increase Energy - Burn Glucose & Body FAT- Build Muscle!

By grinding the seeds into meal yourself, you'll get the freshest, best-tasting oil possible plus many other nutrients not present in the oil. Flax seeds help regulate blood pressure, blood platelets, kidney, immune and blood vessel function, inflammatory response and play a critical role in calcium and energy metabolism. You'll also get natural lecithin that helps you digest fats easier.

Flax's omega-3 fatty acid (LNA) will increase your metabolic rate and boost your energy production. When your metabolic rate soars, more body fat and glucose is burned and less fat is deposited. In addition, the fiber and the 12% mucilage in flax meal will sweep toxins from your colon, banish constipation within three days and soothe your intestinal tract. Most importantly, the mucilage helps stabilize and regulate blood glucose.

Your Source of Liquid Sunshine!

Flax-seed oil contains the highest content of linolenic acid (LNA - omega-3). Primrose, borage and black current seed oils are good sources of linoleic acid (LA - omega 6) and desperately needed GLA.

One company, Barlean's Organic Oils, offers a product that contains all three types of fats (LNA, LA & GLA) critically need by diabetics. Ask about: Omega Twin which is a flax and borage oil combination. Take from 3 to 6 tablespoons a day in divided dosages.
