With over 75% of the USA population consuming alcohol you should not be surprised to hear that every 1 in 10 Americans suffer from alcoholism. This is one disease that is often taken lightly but it is a very progressive disease that can lead to very serious consequences. This condition is clearly defined as a dependence on ethanol, specifically ethyl alcohol. There are many different levels of dependency from physical, psychological, social or even genetic. It is important to understand that there are two different types of alcohol related disorders, the first is alcohol abuse or problem drinking and the second is the alcohol dependency, which is alcoholism.

According to the National Council on Alcoholism, there are close to 18 million Americans today suffering from alcoholism and over 100,000 of them die from this disorder over time. Although at one time alcoholism mainly affected the men of our society, today the statistics of women, adolescence and even children are rising rapidly. It is important to note here that women can develop a liver condition or disease from this type of compulsive drinking and it is almost twice as likely as for men. What is important in regards to alcoholism is to understand that it affects everyone differently, but if you take the initiative and treat it early on, you have a chance of recovery.

Excessive alcohol can create extremely harmful effects on the body including the nervous system, brain, memory loss but more importantly on the liver. The liver processes over 95% of the alcohol, which travels through the body, so you can assume that the more alcohol that travels through is without a doubt going to damage the function of this incredibly necessary organ. Dietary supplements have become incredibly vital for those suffering from alcoholism as there are many studies, which have been done that state that alcoholism suffers do not have to experience the related health disorders by keeping their health strong through different supplements.

  • Free-form amino acid complex should be taken at least 3 times a day of 500 mg dosages as this supplement helps you with the withdrawal and is very necessary for brain and liver function.

  • Gamma-aminobutyric is used to calm the body, the anxiety attacks and stress that will no doubt appear when you begin depriving yourself of alcohol.

  • Gluthathione protects the liver and reduces the cravings for alcohol; this should be taken in 3,000 mg dosages on an empty stomach for best results.

  • Pantothenic acid is essential to aid the body in the detoxification process. By taking this supplement in 100 mg dosages, 3 times a day you can be sure to experience the relief from cravings and anxiety.

  • It is recommended to avoid alcohol at all costs. Abstinence is the best remedy to get over this harmful disease and take control of your life again. One simple sip of alcohol can bring you right back to the dependency of this substance.

These are the top and most essential supplements used to help recover from alcoholism, but there are dozens more as well. By speaking with your physician and/or a qualified naturopathic specialist you can create a daily routine of the best supplements to make sure you are using only what will help you and not what could harm you further by misuse.
