Coenzyme A is an enzyme produced by the body from pantotheic acid and is needed to metabolize fat, carbohydrates, & proteins and convert them to energy. In fact, it is the most active metabolic enzyme in the human body responsible for initiating the body's energy cycle (variously referred to as the ATP, TCA, Krebs or citric acid cycle), in which over 90% of the body's energy is produced.

When CoA is lacking, the energy cycle becomes blocked and a number of different results including loss of appetite, depression, fatigue, anxiety, impaired sense of balance, abnormal need for sleep and easy irritability can occur.

CoA also plays a vital role in immune system support and the body's stress coping ability.

The beneficial effects of CoA also include slowing the aging process, aiding the body in the development and functions of the female and male sex organs, facilitating the repair of RNA and DNA and adding the manufacture of connective tissue.

CoA is also the vital catalyst needed to experience the benefits of coenzyme Q10, which according to researchers at the University of Miami can kill breast and prostate cancer cells. They recommend applying as an ointment to the tumor sites.

CoQ10 is one of the most important antioxidants found in the body. Cells use CoQ10 to both shield against damage from free radicals and produce ATP.

It should be noted that statin drugs are CoA inhibitors; which is another reason to stay away from them.

You can find CoA at your local health food store in capsule form. CoA raises energy and supports the immune system when taken as a supplement.

* Important notes: It is recommended that you seek the advice of a qualified healthcare practitioner prior to using Coenzyme A or any alternative therapies. The recommended doses are for those over age 18 unless otherwise stated. Always check herb and vitamin use with your child’s health care practitioner prior to administering them.
