Legionnaires' disease was first discovered in 1976 when an
outbreak occurred, which effected more than 182 people. This is an
extreme lung and bronchial tube infection that is caused by a bacteria build up of the
genus legionella. This type of bacteria lives mainly in water but
can also be dispersed through airborne vapors and sometimes found
within newly fresh soils or excavation sites. This disease is not
contagious and therefore cannot spread from one person to another in
order to cause an outbreak. Outbreaks can be |
attributed to a large deposit or source of bacteria that each person was
exposed to separately.
Understanding and being able to spot the first warning signs of
Legionnaires' disease is very important if you are going to prevent a life
threatening condition. The first symptoms you may see will be quite similar
to what is known as the common flu. Symptoms include: headache, fatigue,
aches and pains and perhaps a moderate to severe fever. As the disease
continues to progress after a 2-10 day rest period you will begin to
experience a much higher fever of up to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Your
symptoms will progress to include chills, severe chest pain, vomiting and
nausea, disorientation as well as shortness of breath just to name a few.
The risk of developing Legionnaires' disease is much higher for men and
women who are already suffering from diabetes or kidney failure. If you are
currently utilizing lifestyle habits that may actually be inhibiting the
function of your immune function such as drinking alcohol, smoking and bad
eating habits than you too are raising your own risk to contract such a
disease. As a young adult you have a greater chance to recover from this
disease but as you get older your chances of developing respiratory
failure are greater and greater.
Take a look at the different natural supplements and remedies that can be
used in order to treat and even prevent the onset of Legionnaires' disease.
- 2 capsules of Garlic, 3 times a day can help destroy the
excess bacteria within your body. I recommend the brand Kyolic
by Wakunaga of America.
- 3,000 mg of Vitamin C, three times a day will act as a
powerful antioxidant and therefore will aid in the elimination of this
bacteria as well.
- Coenzyme Q10 can help promote your immune function and carry
the necessary oxygen to the cells. Jarrow formulas produce
high-quality coenzyme supplements.
- Vitamin A is another immune system booster but it can also
protect the lung tissue, which becomes important for anyone with
Legionnaire’s disease.
- 80 mg of Zinc per day can help promote the strength of your
immune system to fight this disease.
