In the human body, many types of fungi can be found anywhere. One of the most common types of these fungi or yeast is Candida, specifically Candida albicans. They live in all the surfaces of our bodies. It exists naturally in the body, and in healthy bodies, it does not pose any kind of danger. However, if there is an overgrowth of this type of fungi in the body, a condition known as candidiasis may occur. It is caused by an overgrowth of the yeast in different parts of the body and an infection happens especially in warm and moist areas. Not only infections, but candidiasis may also lead to conditions such as abdominal bloating, thrush, chronic fatigue syndrome, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and depression.

Men and women can be equally affected by candidiasis. However, people with poor immune system, diabetes, older people and women are at higher risk of experiencing this condition. Signs of candidiasis include thrush or oral yeast infection, skin infection, constipation, brain fog or difficulty to remember things, depression, sensitivity to food and strong odors, low sex drive, frequent urination, blurred vision, vaginitis or vaginal itch, and esophagitis or pain in swallowing. A condition like candidiasis causes many discomforts in the body and the only way to prevent it is to eliminate the growth of the bacteria that causes such conditions with the use of these natural tips.

  • Consume a lot of healthy fats such as extra virgin olive oil, fish oil and cod liver oil.

    Candidiasis is caused by some of forms of congestion in our liver and gall bladder, and the first step to addressing candida is to perform a liver and gall bladder flush. In line with that, our liver and gall bladder needs enough fats – healthy fats, that is – to release the bile in them. Because if not, these organs may get congested and lead to the worsening of the condition. This is why, regardless of your metabolic type, it is important to supply the body with enough healthy fats to keep the liver and gall bladder functioning, keeping away more candida infections. At least 10 grams of healthy fats is required to keep the liver functioning. Other sources of healthy fats include fish, meat sources, avocados, walnuts, almonds and palm oil.

  • Eat fruits such as grape fruit, apples, and berries because of its antioxidant content.

    Taking fruits to eliminate candida is a no-no, since candida feeds on sugar and fruits contain fructose that is, well, a form of sugar. However, fruits with antioxidant properties may be an exception. We all know that antioxidants are compounds that bring many health benefits to the body, like protection from free radical damage, treatment for a wide range of diseases and it also helps slow down the aging process. A combination of antioxidants will altogether make our body candidiasis-free.

  • Avoid foods and drinks that are loaded with sugar.

    If you are on a candida diet, it is strictly advised NOT to take sugar in any form. To eliminate candida, you need to starve them, not feed them. Candida feeds on sugar therefore, it must be eliminated at all costs or else you’ll find yourself having more candida than you wanted. Craving for sugar is most likely to happen because the candida needs it. They send signals to your brain making you think that you want the sugar, but it is them that want it. Piece of advice, don’t give in. As the candida begins to die because they have nothing to feed on, your craving for sugar will become lesser by the minute.

  • Take in a lot of purified and filtered water, coupled with barley grass and herbal teas.

    Drinking water is necessary whether or not you are in an anti-candida diet. However, it is very important to take pure water especially when you are diagnosed with this condition. Pure water means it is free of fluorine, chloride, metals, perchlorate, etc. However, if you drink bottled or distilled water, just make sure it is free of other impurities. Getting on the scale is one of the best ways to determine the amount of water that should be taken in an anti-candida diet.  Just take your body weight, multiply it by .55 and drink that number of ounces of water per day. Drink it preferably at a room temperature, as cold water chills the organs and decreases their ability to function properly especially in cases such as candida overgrowth. Take note: The body needs pure water. Drinks like coffee or commercially-prepared juices should not be counted as a pure water intake. The body needs pure water in addition to the other healthy liquids consumed.

  • Use natural antifungals such as Caprylic acid, extra virgin coconut oil, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, Wormwood/Black Walnut, oil of oregano, and garlic.

    Natural antifungals are great to prevent candida overgrowth. Garlic is an herb that has powerful antibacterial and antifungal properties that can destroy candida albicans as much as the popular anti-fungal drug, Nystatin. It is recommended to take raw garlic to get most of the garlic’s ability to destroy bacteria and fungi like candida yeast. However, if you are not fond of taking raw garlic, garlic supplements may be taken. The oil of Oregano also has powerful anti-fungal properties once mostly used in cooking. It is also used as an herbal medicine in most parts of the world. Just add a few drops of the oil of Oregano in one glass of water since it is very potent. However, take these anti-fungals only when you have your diet under control. Use different antifungals very 3 to 4 days because the candida may develop a resistance to an antifungal if used for a long period of time.

  • Psyllium husk

    The Psyllium is a seed from India, where it is commonly called isagbol. Its husk has high fiber content and is widely used as a laxative. According to people who have taken psyllium, they have passed out large, well-formed stools. Cleansing the colon is one of the most effective ways to fight candida infection, and psyllium is very effective in doing such. Psyllium husks absorb bacteria, fungi, toxins and other harmful substances and eliminate them out through our stool.
