Naturally Dealing with Diabetes Part 2By Consumer Health Advocate, Frank Mangano |
Although diabetes is in fact an incredibly common condition, it can also be considered as the gateway to many other life threatening conditions if it is not managed and taken care of properly in the early stages. Diabetes causes glucose build-ups within the blood stream because this glucose is not being used and taken in by the cells due to the lack of insulin, this can lead to Hyperglycemia. If diabetes is not properly controlled it can lead to heart disease, kidney disease, edema, nerve damage and infections of the lungs, mouth, skin, feet, bladder and genital areas. It is common that skin sores can develop through many parts of the body and not heal properly as well.
There is currently no cure for diabetes but the biggest concern that is
associated with this condition is the complications that may be created when
the insulin levels are not maintained properly and consistently. If you
experience constantly high blood sugar levels over time this can lead to
blindness, kidney failure, heart disease, limb amputations and nerve damage.
When you are diagnosed with diabetes, you will find you are a greater risk
of contracting other conditions as well such as cardiovascular disease.
Cardiovascular disease is 2-4 times more likely to be contracted by someone
with diabetes and 60-65% of these patients also suffer from high blood
pressure.
When your body experiences low blood sugar, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) can
occur. When the body is low on insulin it starts using stored fat as fuel.
When this fat finally breaks down ketones are produced as the by-product.
DKA is most commonly found in those who suffer from Type 1 diabetes. Some of
the symptoms to look out for include nausea, trouble breathing and confusion
that can result in a diabetic coma. Hyperosmolar syndrome on the other hand
is when your blood sugar gets too high. This is incredibly common with those
who have Type 2 diabetes, elderly and those who are taking steroid medications.
There are many different natural ways to make sure your blood sugar does not
reach extreme levels like this and utilizing them can help you stay healthy
for the long term.
- Coenzyme
Q10
can be taken in dosages of 100 mg daily and improves circulation
and stabilizes your blood sugar.
- Magnesium increases your energy levels and low readings of
magnesium are often found in people with diabetes so this
supplement also prevents deficiencies.
- Manganese is needed to repair the pancreas. This supplement
can be taken in dosages of 5-10 mg daily for best results.
- Vitamin C can help prevent the many complications that can
occur in those who are suffering from diabetes, Type 1 or Type
2.
- Maintaining a healthy diet and proper weight is a good solution to diabetes since obesity is the biggest factor in getting diabetes.
No matter what type of natural alternative healing method you decide is best for you, always make sure to consult a naturopathic professional before replacing any one of your prescription medications, for your own safety.
